On foot

Mid-block on SE Ash between 23rd and 24th. If you reach Cesar Chavez you have gone three blocks too far east.

By bike

A staple rack outside the door and two more on the 24th Avenue corner. The greenway on Ankeny is one block north.

By bus

The 15 stops on Belmont, four minutes south. The 20 stops on Burnside, six minutes north.

Parking

Unmetered on Ash and on 23rd, and it is usually easier after nine. Please leave the two spots outside the door for people picking up orders.

Getting in

One shallow step at the door and a level room inside. Say hello and we will hold the door — the accessible toilet is at the back, past the long table.

Before you come

The questions we get asked

  • Do you take bookings?

Not for tables during the day — it is first come, first served, and the room turns over quickly. The back room in the evening is a booking, and that is the form on the gatherings page.

  • Can I work here on a laptop?

Yes, and plenty of people do. The only rule is that between eleven and one on weekends we ask for the four window tables back, because that is when families come in.

  • Is there wifi?

Yes, free, and the password is on the card by the till. It is fast enough for video calls, but please take them outside.

  • Can I bring my dog?

At the pavement tables, always. Inside, only assistance dogs — it is a small room with an open kitchen.

  • Do you have gluten-free options?

Some, and we will be honest with you: the bakery shares one bench and one oven, so nothing here is safe for coeliac disease. The granola and the yoghurt can be made without gluten ingredients, but not without the risk.

  • Do you take cards?

Cards, phones and cash, all of them, with no minimum and no surcharge.

  • Can I order a loaf or a tray ahead?

Yes — phone before four the day before. Whole loaves are Friday and Saturday, trays of pastry any day we are open.

We are open now, or we will be tomorrow.

Tuesday to Sunday on SE Ash Street. Ring if you want a loaf held back.
